Outlook seems bookish with two sales going on

Thursday, March 4, 2010
(Updated 3:00 am)

Books are the theme of our weekend events.

Rockingham Community College is holding its annual book sale this weekend in the Gerald B. James Library. Hardbacks and paperbacks are selling at cheap prices. Today, get hardbacks for $1 and paperbacks for 50 cents.

And if you wait until the last day of the sale, which is Saturday, stuff as many books as you can into a brown grocery bag for $5.

The Friends of the Western Rockingham County Libraries has a bookstore in Mayodan. It is open every Friday and Saturday. During March, they are offering a 50 percent discount to members of their organization. So as you shop for books, you can join the organization and receive the discount.

One of the goals of the group is to raise funds to build a new library, and the sales at the bookstore help in achieving that goal.

The Rockingham County Reading Association has been hosting discussion groups for the past couple of weeks on its 2010 book selection, “The Bible Salesman” by Clyde Edgerton. Catch the last session today at the Vera Holland Center in Stoneville. The author himself will have a live performance at RCC on Tuesday, so learn what you can before you attend the performance.
